Behind the Wheel with Author Darren Banks

In this episode of Backseat Driver, I had the pleasure of hosting Darren Banks, a former bookseller turned author of four fascinating books on lesser-known racing drivers. Inspired by John Saltinstall, Darren shared how his love for research and history ignited his writing journey, focusing on drivers like Roger Williamson, Tom Pryce, and Stephen South.

We explored the challenges of crafting these stories, from deep research to final edits, and discussed Darren’s passion for honouring the underappreciated talent and the struggles these drivers faced. Closing out, Darren teased his latest projects and reflected on how racing has evolved. It was a captivating conversation with someone passionate about preserving motorsport’s hidden history.
